The U.S. Department of Justice stated in a report on Thursday that the emergence of cryptocurrencies provides opportunities for crimes that pose a threat to U.S. national security.
According to the report, the spread of digital currency worldwide and the lack of consistent supervision in various regions will “damage the security and stability of the international financial system” and hinder law enforcement. New entities using cryptocurrency, such as P2P exchanges, kiosk operators, and online casinos, do not comply with record keeping and reporting requirements, affecting investigations.
The US Department of Justice stated in the report that it will “continue to actively investigate and prosecute a wide range of malicious actors” and encourage international cooperation in investigations and arrests.
