According to a report from foreign media spacenews on Friday, Boeing made it clear that it will continue to develop WGS-11 + military satellites. WGS-11 + will be added to the WGS system at a cost of $600 million to provide broadband communications for the US military and allies.
According to Boeing, the capacity of WGS-11+ is twice that of its predecessors, which is significant because the bandwidth of a WGS spacecraft is equivalent to the bandwidth of the entire existing DSCS constellation. The system supports communication and data transmission for tactical command and control operations, as well as intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) and combat support.
WGS-11+ is a communications satellite developed by the US Department of Defense, Canadian Department of Defense and Australian Department of Defense. It will enter the next phase of Boeing’s development. Boeing will be in California next year. The factory in El Segundo State begins production.
Boeing stated that the digital payload of the new satellite is much more advanced than the old WGS satellite. Troy Dawson, Vice President of Boeing Government Satellite Systems, said, “WGS-11+ uses a narrower spot beam to provide a stronger and more reliable connection exactly where it is needed, which means better performance and larger Flexibility".
The WGS satellite system will provide services to the U.S. Space Force and international partners including Australia, Canada, Denmark, Luxembourg, New Zealand, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Norway.
